Assignment 2 : HISTORY OF THE NAME OF JAKARTA

History of the name of Jakarta. In 6th century there was exist the city named Kalapa. This city had a kingdom of hindu named Sunda. Its capital was Padjadjaran. At that time, this city was powered by Portuguese and were attacked by the youngster named Fatahilah. Since that time, exactly on july 20th, 1527 this city was changed become Jayakarta from its origin name, Sunda Kalapa.  

In 20th century, the name of Jayakarta was changed to be Batavia. At that time, there was happened the Dutch colonization. And the city was captured by the Japanese in 1942-1945, Batavia changed its name to Jakarta. On August 17th, 1945 indonesia became independent and make Jakarta as the capital of Indonesia. Sukarno as Indonesia's President at the time with flying red and white flag in Jakarta. The name Jakarta Officially recognized Indonesia's sovereignty in 1949. In 1966 the official name of Jakarta as the capital of Indonesia.
